Working with Teens and Pre-Teens

Adolescence is a time of incredible growth and change, but it can also bring challenges that feel overwhelming for teens and their families. My approach to working with teens and pre-teens is centered on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where they can feel heard, valued, and understood.

I help teens navigate a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, behavioral challenges, and relational struggles. Many of the young people I work with are processing significant life events, such as parental separation, adoption, or social transitions. I believe that every teen has unique strengths, and together, we’ll explore those strengths to build confidence and resilience.

My work with teens is rooted in Object Relations Theory, which helps us understand how early relationships shape their current experiences. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) to support emotional healing and teach practical coping skills. Additionally, I draw from Family Systems Theory to ensure the entire family system feels supported and engaged in the process.

Parents are a vital part of this journey. While I create a space for teens to express themselves independently, I also encourage open communication with families to ensure that everyone feels equipped to support their teen’s growth. I provide tools and strategies for parents to reinforce the work we do in therapy at home.

Whether your teen is struggling with self-doubt, difficult emotions, or relational challenges, I’m here to help them feel more confident, capable, and connected. Let’s work together to help your teen thrive during this important stage of life.
